GENERAL INFORMATION:
A. Orton Ranch Baptist Camp is an outreach ministry of First Baptist Church, Ketchikan, Alaska. It is rented to Christian church groups and other community organizations with first preference given to returning camps and then on a first come, first serve basis. The funds generated by these rentals go to maintenance and improvements for Orton Ranch.

B. Orton Ranch is located approximately 24 miles from Ketchikan. The first 12 miles can be traveled by car on paved roads to Knudson Cove Marina. The next 10 miles are traveled by private or chartered boat to the U.S. Forest Service dock in Naha bay. Orton Ranch is located about 2.5 miles up the Naha River trail which consists mostly of board walks and winds along the shore of the Roosevelt Lagoon for about 2 miles then along the Naha River to Orton Ranch. A tide race connects the Roosevelt Lagoon with the ocean and can be navigated by small boats only at certain times during or near high tide. Personal gear should be brought in back packs that can be carried easily the entire distance to the Ranch. Supplies should be packed in medium sized boxes that are not too heavy for the campers to carry if that becomes necessary. An ample supply of large garbage bags should also be brought to cover the boxes in case of rain.

C. Medical: There are limited First Aid facilities available at the Ranch. The nearest Hospital is in Ketchikan and it takes a minimum of two hours for a non-emergency medical evacuation. An emergency medical evacuation would be conducted by helicopter and could occur in as little as 30 minutes but may take longer depending on communications difficulties. Because of the remoteness of the Ranch and the high cost of non-scheduled transportation it is advised that any persons not in good health consult with their doctor prior to planning on staying at the Ranch.

D. Insurance: Your organization will need to provide proof of insurance covering your campers and staff before the camp begins.

FACILITIES:
A. Berthing: There are three dormitories with a total of 60 single beds available in them. Two of the dorms sleep 18 and one sleeps 24. These beds are all bunk beds with an upper and lower bunk and all of them have standard mattresses. There are also six beds available in the “T-house”, these are also bunk beds and is where the cooking staff would usually sleep. Each dormitory has a wood stove, a bathroom, hooks for hanging rain gear and wet clothes and a few shelves for keeping small amounts of personal items on. There are no shower facilities, campers usually bathe in the river.

B. Cooking: A full service kitchen is located in the “T-house” with a refrigerator/freezer, a propane stove/oven griddle, pots and pans, cooking utensils, silverware, glasses, etc. Any consumable supplies such as napkins, paper towels, and toilet paper need to be brought in with your camp. Please be careful to bring the food items you will use because of the time required to travel to town. It is advisable to limit your non-food garbage, as it will need to be transported back out with you at the end of the camp.

C. Dining facilities: Benches and tables are also located in the “T-house”. The tables fold up against the walls when not in use so that the dining room can be used for gatherings or as an activities area when meals are not in progress. The benches are not to be removed from the T-house.

D. Activities: The only limiting factor for activities is your own imagination! The camp has a volleyball net, a swing set, and a large open grass field, along with 600 feet of river frontage. In the surrounding area there are hiking trails, the river, ponds, animal life, plant life, birds, waterfowl, fishing, etc. There is some sporting equipment on site which can be used by your camp. Each camp is required to supply your own lifeguard for water activities.

E. Electrical power: The camp is powered by a diesel generator which provides sufficient power for the camp facility. There is, however, not sufficient power for hair dryers, curling irons and many other similar appliances. An example of the generator hours is: 7:30-9:30a, 1:00-2:00p, and 7:00p-11:00p for a total of 7 hours. Additional hours may be purchased at the rate of $12.50 hr. These are to be scheduled with the camp manager and recorded on your Camp Rental Worksheet.

F. Transportation: Transportation to and from the camp is the responsibility of the organization renting Orton Ranch. When possible, at our discretion, a skiff can meet you to transport boxed supplies to the Ranch. The skiff can only transit through the Tide race at certain times and all skiff service must be previously arranged with the First Baptist Church.
Rental Cost

In addition, a 15% fuel surcharge will be added to each camp’s total bill. Total days are counted by the nights spent in camp, this will allow you to move into camp in the afternoon of your first day and move out in the morning of the last day. This basic charge covers the use of the T-house, the three dorms, and the grounds along with the fuel (i.e. propane, gas, generator fuel) needed to hold a camp. A deposit of $300.00 is required. Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis and your reservation is not secure until your deposit is received with the exception of established yearly camps. If you cancel your reservation later than May 1st your deposit will not be refunded. The deposit will be deducted from the total amount due at the end of your camp.

The Condo building and the Brotherhood House are rented separate from the main facility. Use of them may require an additional daily fee and requires prior approval from the scheduling coordinator.
