Camp history

Orton Ranch was the vision of Pastor Marion Dunham and his wife Anna. Pastor Dunham purchased the property in 1960 and started the camp as a ministry to the church body. After leaving Ketchikan to pastor in Oklahoma, he continued to be involved in the workings of he camp and when he could no longer do so he deeded the camp to First Baptist Church to use for ministry. Over the years Orton Ranch has grown to include Christian camps for children, youth, adults, and families as well as a beautiful place for community groups to retreat. Over the last 50 years, local residents as well as church groups from around the U.S. have given their time and money to help Orton Ranch become the awe inspiring place it is today.

 Camp testimonials:

“I come to camp to learn and to get closer to other people and God.” — Tyler Wolfe,

“It’s a place where you can encounter God and put everything else behind you.” — Tony Martinez,

When I first arrived in Ketchikan, Orton Ranch was a place for fun and swimming. Then a few years ago it became something quite different...it became a place of spiritual retreat, encouragement, and growth. I look forward to the camp as a time to get away with God, a time to seek understanding from Him and direction for my life, and to grow in a deeper, more intimate love relationship with Him. -
